Description of activities
ABITA is an Inter-University Research Centre founded by the University of Florence,the Milan Polytechnic, the Federico II University in Naples, and “La Sapienza” in Rome, and joined in 2004 by the Turin Polytechnic, the University of Genoa, the Second University of Naples, and the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria.
The Centre was designed to promote the cooperation, the exchange of information, data, methods and programmes for developing research and teaching activities concerning sustainability, energy conservation and the use of renewable energies in architecture and in environmental technologies, with the scope of raising the standards and nature of these themes in university educational activities, as well as in research and in external consultancy for both public and private entities.
The strategic objective of ABITA is to train research and technical personnel through continuing education and Master programmes while maintaining a permanent contact with public and private institutions. The results of the activities undertaken are then shared and made available through conferences, seminars and workshops, and finally through publications in the fields of Bio-ecologic Architecture and Technological Innovation for the Environment.
ABITA has established over the years a strong link with national and international institutions present in the region, providing them with consultancy as well as technical and scientific support for the undertaking of strategic planning projects aimed at revitalizing urban settlements while focusing on high quality energy and environmental objectives.
