Graduated with honours in Architecture from the University of Florence in 2012. Upon completion of her degree she began to work for the Interu-niversitary Centre ABITA. Her main interests are urban agriculture and technological green areas, and was part of the VERDE+ project in the MIUR Smart Cities and Communities and Social Innovation competition. In 2010/2011 she studied at the School of Architecture of Paris La Villette and in 2008 was an apprentice at the Ellsworth Associates Architecture Office in Boston. In 2013 she did an apprenticeship at the Tuscan Region, in the area “Istruzione, Università, Ricerca” (“Education, University, Research”). _ Scientific interests:_ Local idendity and local sustainable development, Technologies appropriate for the varying intervention contexts, Technological innovation, Architectural, urban and landscape requalification
“Urban Agriculture and Sustainable Cities. Potentialities and technologies for a green productive infrastructure”
This phenomenon concerns the city at different scales, from planning to the design of new types of open spaces (community gardens, agricultural parks, pocket vegetable gardens), as well as the design of an integration between agricultural production and built environment (on rooftops, with hothouse systems) and of technological components. Architects are thus involved in the design of new spaces or components necessary for performing new functions derived from current needs. The research aims to develop an understanding of the phenomenon of Urban Agriculture, to update and identify the state of the art of a complex phenomenon, define a comprehensive cognitive framework which includes all possibilities for the establishment of an urban green productive network, and anlyse and define the topic, especially from the point of view of architectural integration and technological development. The result of the resarch consists in the definition of an experimental model for the development of urban agriculture in areas within the city of Florence that are either unplanned or abandoned, as a strategy for re-qualifying and re-functionalising otherwise marginal spaces, as well as for fostering social innovation and the development of 0 Km production chains. The model is based upon reversible and sustainable modular protected cultivation systems with a closed water-system, which are self-sufficient in terms of power, with a good architectural quality, and suitable for being placed in urban contexts on a temporary basis if necessary. |
